Frustrated with repeat admissions for treatable conditions like pediatric asthma and complications due to obesity, the members of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU Healthcare), the largest resident physicians’ union in the country, launched the Healthy Bronx Initiative. Through advocacy and education, CIR resident physicians are working with community organizations to address the underlying causes of two public health crises in the Bronx: obesity and pediatric asthma.
CIR members believe we must address these issues at their roots in order to improve the health and well-being of Bronx families. Together, community groups and medical professionals can improve environmental factors and empower individuals to make healthy choices. The Healthy Bronx Initiative works to promote structural changes that improve air quality, city planning, housing and jobs.
CIR doctors use our voices to advocate for systemic and environmental changes that impact public health in the Bronx. CIR seeks to be an authoritative voice in public health promoting quality access to basic resources like housing, affordable and nutritious food, technology, fair wages, and health insurance. We hope you will join us.
